Are you considering an elopement in the breathtaking landscape of Glacier National Park? Do the details, planning, permits, vendors, and choices seem overwhelming? Many couples from distant places who've never set foot in Montana share this concern, much like Ashley and Matt, who, despite residing in Missouri, had a dream of eloping in Glacier National Park.
Upon their initial contact, I assured Ashley and Matt that I am always happy to assist with their questions, drawing on my extensive experience in capturing family portraits and elopements in scenic Glacier National Park. From start to finish, I willl be your trusted guide, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
The first critical decision when considering an elopement in or around Glacier National Park revolves around the choice of location. Where would you like to exchange vows and savor that unforgettable first kiss? If you opt for an elopement within the park's boundaries, acquiring a permit is essential. You'll need to specify your preferred location and the timeframe you have in mind. Fortunately, the permit cost is a reasonable $100, and the application process is straightforward. As someone who has orchestrated numerous elopements within the park, I can attest to the awe-inspiring experiences it offers.
Ashley and Matt chose a ceremony outside the park, because they were seeking alternatives that bypassed the permit requirements and provided more flexibility in terms of timing and location. They exchanged vows beside the turquoise waters of the Middle Fork of the Flathead River at Belton Bridge surrounded by their family and children on this picture perfect Montana Day.
This location is a personal favorite for elopements, offering privacy and captivating Montana views. It's a spot I often recommend to couples, whether they're eloping or not, for its quintessentially Montana charm.
Remarkably, Belton Bridge serves as the historic entrance to Glacier National Park, with one side within the park's boundaries and the other outside, removing the need for a permit on the non-park side. While some couples choose to say their vows on the bridge, Ashley and Matt embraced adventure, descending the rocky cliffs to be nestled along the calm waters. The day began with excitement, and the laid-back vibe set the tone for their elopement.
Following the heartwarming ceremony, our journey led us into the breathtaking expanse of Glacier National Park, where we embarked on the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road, our first stop being Sacred Falls. This hidden gem is a short hike away from the road, guiding us down to the mesmerizing waters of McDonald Creek. The area's appearance transforms with the changing seasons and water levels, but on this beautiful July day, nature graced us with an ideal amount of water, complemented by perfectly positioned rocks, setting the stage for truly enchanting photographs.
These two have so much fun together it is obvious in the photographs. They made my job easy! I felt like I was photographing wedding models as these two know how to work the camera!
One of the most awe-inspiring viewpoints within Glacier National Park awaits along the Going-to-the-Sun Road—Big Bend. With 360-degree vistas painted in vibrant colors and soaring mountains touching the sky, this location epitomizes the park's unrivaled natural beauty. My approach to photography is to capture this beauty in all its colorful glory, ensuring the perfect exposure that showcases the park's splendor. At Big Bend, I often say, "It's a landscape photo with the couple in it." The sweeping views from this vantage point are among the most iconic in all of Glacier National Park.
Our adventure ended at the renowned Apgar Village and Lake McDonald area. The sky's intense blue hue and the crystal-clear waters created a sight to behold, making it an unforgettable day. Lake McDonald is celebrated not only for its colorful rocks but also for the imposing mountain backdrop that frames this picturesque location.
These two make Glacier National Park look even better!
Congratulations Ashley and Matt. I absolutely know you will have a life full of amazing adventures and endless miles of hiking awaits!
